Willow: Well, whatever it is, it's not the, the traditional haunting,
because it's not limited to one specific place,
and there's not, you know, a dead person.
Tara: Not any more.

隔日一早，Willow、Tara、Xander和Anya四人聚在Summers家的後院裡，Xander坐在院子裡的其中一把椅子上，憂心忡忡地說。
Xander: Very bad. Very, very, very bad. Bad.
詹德：真糟糕。真的、真的、真的很糟糕。糟糕。

Anya靠在Xander坐著的椅子扶手上，她也憂心地看著Willow和Tara。
Anya: He's all traumatized.
安雅：他受到很大的打擊。

Willow坐在三人對面的椅子上。
Willow: Well, whatever it is, it's not the, the traditional haunting, because it's not limited to one specific place, and there's not, you know, a dead person.
薇珞：不管那是什麼，那都不是、不是典型的鬧鬼，因為它的出沒沒有被一個特定地點限制住，而且沒有，你知道的，沒有死人。

Tara搖搖頭。 Tara: Not any more. 泰拉：已經沒有了。 Anya: I bet it's a hitchhiker. 安雅：我猜它是一個搭便車四處旅行的傢伙。 Xander: A hitchhiker? 詹德：一個搭便車旅行的傢伙？
Anya回答。 Anya: Um, standard way to travel through dimensions. Uh, some demon-thing sees someone moving between worlds, and grabs on for the ride. 安雅：嗯，在各空間旅行的標準模式。嗯，有一些惡魔看到有人在空間領域間遊走，就搭個便車。

Anya的猜測讓Willow感到不安起來。
Willow: You mean like, some hell-beastie rode in with Buffy? Like ... we're responsible for this?
薇珞：妳是說就像，某個地獄小惡魔搭上Buffy的便車？就像……我們要為這負責？
Tara: Assume crash positions.
泰拉：假設失敗的狀況。
Anya: I think we shouldn't've brought Buffy back. I knew it was going to end badly. I should've said something.
安雅：我想我們不應該把Buffy帶回來的。我就知道這樣的結果一定很糟。我當時應該說些話的。
Xander: Okay, fine, but ... what are we gonna do? I mean, I'm feeling the need for some vigorous doing, you know?
詹德：算了，沒關係，但是……我們該怎麼辦呢？我覺得需要做些大刀闊斧的舉動，妳知道嗎？

Willow聳聳肩，安撫大家。 Willow: It's okay. We, we just kill the beastie and then all is good. We're rolling in puppies! ... Right? 薇珞：沒關係的。我們、我們就殺掉小惡魔，然後一切就沒事了。我們正在把小東西耍著玩！……是吧？ Xander: Can we do that? Kill it? 詹德：我們可以那樣做嗎？殺了它？ Buffy: We killing something? 芭菲：我們要殺掉東西？
	大家聽到Buffy的話，全都嚇了一跳，紛紛轉頭看向站在一旁的Buffy，她這時手裡還端著杯咖啡。 Willow: Buffy! You're not supposed to be up. 薇珞：Buffy！妳不該起床的。 Tara: How, how are you feeling? Are you okay? 泰拉：妳、妳感覺怎樣？妳還好吧？

Buffy環顧了一下大家，繼續剛剛的話題。
Buffy: So what are we killing?
芭菲：那我們要殺什麼？
Anya: A demon you brought back from Hell with you.
安雅：一個妳從地獄帶回來的惡魔。
Buffy: Oh.
芭菲：喔。

Willow生氣地瞪了Anya一眼，然後趕緊跟Buffy補充說明。
Willow: It's not like she's making it sound. A little haunting-type stuff. Boo-scary, everything's normal.
薇珞：那不像她說的那樣。有一個小小幽靈狀的東西。嚇嚇人的，一切都很正常。

Tara關心地看著Buffy。
Tara: You shouldn't worry about it.
泰拉：妳不該擔心的。

雖然Willow和Tara想辦法讓Buffy別覺得這很嚴重，但是Buffy反倒想到一些昨晚她看到的怪事。
Buffy: Um, I remember something, last ... night, uh...
芭菲：嗯，我記得一些昨……昨晚的事情，嗯……

Buffy才開了個頭，就忽然停了下來，心神不知道飄到哪個地方，正準備聽她看法的大家，全都奇怪地望著她。
Xander: Buff?
詹德：Buffy？

Buffy搖搖頭，又回過神來。 Buffy: Um ... the photographs. O-of us. They changed. 芭菲：嗯……是照片。我們的照片。它們變了。 Tara: How did they change? 泰拉：它們怎麼變的？

Buffy: They were ... dead. I-I-I mean, we were dead. Like, um ... dead bodies? But, but then they were okay. So I just, you know, figured it was me. That I was going crazy.
芭菲：它們……死掉了。我、我、我是說，我們都死了。就像，嗯……屍體一樣？但是，但是之後它他們又變好了。所以我只是，你知道的，想說那是我的關係。我瘋了。
Anya: Well, maybe you are. Going crazy. From Hell.
安雅：這個嘛，或許妳沒錯。妳瘋了。從地獄回來的關係。

Willow又瞪了Anya一眼，這一次Willow的表情看來更生氣。Anya看到情況不大對，擠出一個心虛的笑容，又對Buffy說。
Anya: No. You're fine.
安雅：不。妳沒事的。

Willow繼續對Buffy安慰道。 Willow: You are. And Buffy, we're, we're so glad. 薇珞：妳沒事的。還有Buffy，我們、我們都好高興。 Xander: Yeah. This thing, this haunting thing, we'll fix it, and then we'll still have you back, which is ... it's so important. 詹德：對。這件事，這個幽靈事件，我們會處理好的，然後我們還是能繼續讓妳回來，這方面……非常重要。

Willow和Tara馬上附和地點點頭。
Willow: Yes.
薇珞：對。
Tara: It's wonderful.
泰拉：很棒。

相較於Willow和Tara熱情的表情，Buffy則是始終面無表情。
Buffy: We should get to work.
芭菲：我們該去幹活了。

之後大家就回到魔法商店內開始翻閱資料，尋找是哪種惡魔會隨著Buffy來到這裡。時間飛逝，一下就從白天查到晚上，此時桌上散滿了各式書籍，Xander、Anya和Tara都認真翻著書，Willow則是在某個單子上寫字，站在她身後的Dawn好奇地看她在寫什麼。
Dawn: What's the list?
糖：那是什麼名單？

Anya從書堆中抬起頭，回答了Dawn的問題。 Anya: Possible hitchhikers. 安雅：可能的搭便車惡魔。 Xander: Demons that might have come out of Hell at the same time Buffy did. 詹德：惡魔可能在Buffy從地獄出來的同時，跟著一起出來了。

Dawn念起Willow記載的可能惡魔名單。
Dawn: "Skaggmore demons, Trellbane demons, Skitterers, Large and Small Bone-Eaters" ... If we get to pick, I say we go with the Small Bone-Eaters.
糖：「死客多惡魔、催魂惡魔、掠食惡魔，大、小食骨魔」……如果我們要選的話，我說我們就選小食骨魔吧。
Anya: Well, that just means they prefer to eat things with small bones, like you.
安雅：那只是代表牠們喜歡吃骨頭比較小的東西，好比就是妳。

Willow大概描述出她記載下來，這些可能惡魔的大概背景。
Willow: That's just what we have so far. Five species of demons that have been known to move transdimensionally. Two of them may be invisible in this dimension, and, uh, two others can perform spells to alter perception.
薇珞：那就是我們目前所能查到的了。五種已知會隨空間轉移遊走的惡魔。其中有兩種在這個空間或許看不見，還有，嗯，有兩個能施魔法改變形體。
Anya: Well, that's four. What's the other one like?
安雅：那只有四個。還有一個會怎樣？
Tara: Uh, like the others, only dripping with viscous fluid.
泰拉：嗯，就像其他的惡魔一樣，只會滴一些黏搭搭的液體。
Dawn: Eww.
糖：噁。

Xander放下手上的書，問Willow接下來該怎麼辦。
Xander: So, should we concentrate on how to kill those, or should we try to find more?
詹德：所以，我們該專心想出如何消滅這些惡魔呢？還是我們該試著找更多資料？
Willow: I'm not sure. Maybe ... maybe some of us can, uh, keep going finding more, and the others--
薇珞：我不確定。或許……或許我們當中的一些人可以，嗯，繼續找出更多的惡魔資料，而剩下的人……

一旁的Buffy幽幽地說。
Buffy: I miss Giles.
芭菲：我想念Giles。

Willow看著Buffy，趕緊解釋。
Willow: Oh. He's coming back, I talked to him. I know I'm a kind of poor substitute, but until then, we'll get it done.
薇珞：喔。他快回來了，我告訴他了。我知道我是那種不怎麼樣的代班，但是在他回來前，我們會處理好這件事的。

Willow說完，Buffy看到大家全都很期待地望著她，她依舊是沒什麼表情。
Buffy: I think I should patrol.
芭菲：我想我該去巡邏。

Buffy放下手上的書，就起身準備離去，Willow被Buffy的舉動弄得有點難過。
Willow: Well, I know we'll find something soon.
薇珞：我知道我們很快就會找出來的。

Buffy停下腳步，回頭看著大家。
Buffy: Yeah.
芭菲：對。

接著她就繼續朝門外走去。
Xander: Uh, do you want us to go with you?
詹德：嗯，妳要我們跟妳一起去嗎？
Anya: We can do that.
安雅：我們可以的。

Buffy停下腳步，又回頭看了一眼。
Buffy: No. I-I need to go. Sorry.
芭菲：不用了。我、我得去了。抱歉。
Dawn: You should go.
糖：妳該去的。

Dawn看著Buffy離去，但Buffy這次卻絲毫沒有為Dawn的話而停下腳步，Dawn於是更強調說。
Dawn: I'll be safe here with the others. Don't worry about me.
糖：我在這裡跟著大家會很安全的。別擔心我。

Dawn一說完，突然她的眼珠變成可怕的灰白色，並且露出詭異的笑容。

夜已經很深了，Anya為大家跑去外面買咖啡提神，回來時手上提了好幾杯咖啡。
Anya: I found one of those 24-hour places for coffee. Remember that bookstore? Well they became one of those books-and-coffee places, and now they're just coffee. It's like evolution, only without the getting-better part.
安雅：我找到了家二十四小時賣咖啡的地方。記得那個書店吧？那裡之前成了一家可以邊看書邊喝咖啡的地方，而現在卻只賣咖啡了。這就像是一種進化，只是少掉變更好的部分。

Anya邊說話，邊把咖啡端到圓桌上，圍著圓桌的眾人都已經面露疲色。Anya低頭指指她買來的咖啡。
Anya: Uh, coffee, coffee, coffee, um, hot chocolate for Dawn. You're too young for coffee.
安雅：嗯，咖啡、咖啡、咖啡，嗯，熱巧克力是給Dawn的。（對Dawn）妳太小了，還不能喝咖啡。

坐在書架旁的Dawn突然轉頭過來，她的眼珠灰白，憤怒地罵Anya。 Dawn: Idiot. 糖：蠢蛋。 大家全都吃驚地望著Dawn。 Anya: You can have my coffee. 安雅：妳可以喝我的咖啡。
	這時Dawn傾身向前，用粗啞的聲音低沉地說。 Dawn: All of you did it. You stupid children. Did you think the blood wouldn't reach you? I smell the death on you. Look at what you've done! 糖：你們的所作所為。你們這些蠢小孩。你們以為鮮血不會降臨到你們身上嗎？我在你們身上聞到死亡。看看你們做了什麼吧！

Dawn一說完，低吼一聲，張開嘴朝圓桌噴出熊熊火焰，大家全都嚇得從椅子上閃開，Dawn一噴完火，就整個昏了過去。Xander狼狽地從地上爬起來，看到桌上的書正在燃燒，趕緊隨手拿一個抱枕，拍打著火焰。
Xander: Fire! Fire! Fire!
詹德：失火了！失火了！失火了！

Tara擔心地爬到Dawn的身邊。
Tara: Dawn!
泰拉：Dawn！

Xander努力撲滅火焰，Willow也爬到Dawn的身旁，幫忙把Dawn扶起來靠坐在Tara身上。 Willow: Oh my god, oh my god. That was it. Li-like Buffy, with fire. 薇珞：喔，老天啊，我的天啊。（看著Xander）就是之前那個東西，就像是有火的Buffy。

大家講話的同時，都沒注意到正有一團沒有形體的物體，從地板滑走。
Xander: Is she okay?
詹德：她還好吧？
Anya: Did I look like that? I hope I didn't look like that.
安雅：我之前看起來像那樣嗎？但願我沒有看起來像那樣子。

Willow沒好氣地諷刺Anya。
Willow: No, I'm sure you looked really glamorous cutting up your face.
薇珞：不，我確定妳的臉出醜時真的很迷人。

Dawn從Tara身上醒了過來。
Dawn: What ... what is it? What's happening?
糖：那……那是什麼？發生什麼事了？
Willow: You'll be okay.
薇珞：妳會沒事的。
Anya: I bet you'll experience some dry-mouth.
安雅：我猜妳會感到嘴巴乾乾的。

大家全瞪著Anya，但Anya還是輕鬆地聳聳肩，補充剛剛講的。
Anya: Fire.
安雅：有火啊。

Dawn回頭問Tara。
Dawn: Was it ... did the demon thing have me?
糖：是它……是那個惡魔把我弄成這樣的嗎？
Tara: It's okay. It's okay.
泰拉：沒事了。沒事了。
Xander: Yeah. It's gone.
詹德：對。都沒事了。
Anya: Yes, but where did it go? I mean, evil things have plans. They have things to do.
安雅：對，但是那東西跑去哪了？我是指，邪惡的東西都有計畫。它們都是有目的。

至於Buffy在墓園裡巡邏了一陣子，就跑去找Spike，她見了Spike，也沒有多說什麼，但是Spike卻很感慨，他對Buffy說出許多心底話，他說他是多麼不希望Buffy離開大家，他也很恨自己之前無力阻止她犧牲自己，所以他只有信守之前對Buffy的承諾，想辦法保護Dawn。
