「魔法奇兵」第六季第三集—After Life (4)

Tara: Willow is a talented witch, and she would never do anything to hurt anyone.

快天亮了，大家在魔法商店內的調查還沒有結束，Xander走到窗口旁瞥了外面的天色一眼，Tara也跟著他走向窗口。
Xander: It's getting light out. Buffy's probably on her way home from patrolling.
詹德：天漸漸亮了。Buffy或許在巡邏完回家的路上。

Tara的心情有點無奈。 Tara: I like sunrise better when I'm getting up early than when I'm staying up late, you know? It's like ... I'm seeing it from the wrong side. 泰拉：我比較喜歡是早起看到日出，而非是熬夜看到日出，你懂嗎？這就像……我看到的是日出錯誤的一面。

眼看Willow沒有跟在一旁，Xander壓低聲音，緊張地問Tara。
Xander: Hey, Tara, this is probably crazy ... but Spike got me to thinking. This spell we did ... it's having consequences, isn't it? I mean ... it sure seems like it. And I was just wondering ... did you know that this might happen?
詹德：嘿，Tara，這或許有點瘋狂……但是Spike給了我一點想法。我們施的這個咒語……是會有報應的，對不對？我的意思是……這東西似乎就像是報應一樣。而我有點好奇……妳之前就知道這種事或許會發生嗎？

Tara馬上搖頭。 Tara: No! 泰拉：不知道！ Xander: Do you think ... could someone have known? 詹德：妳想……或許某個人知道嗎？

Tara搖著頭為Willow辯護。
Tara: Willow is a talented witch, and she would never do anything to hurt anyone.
泰拉：Willow是個有天賦的女巫，她絕對不會做出任何傷人的事。
Xander: I know, I know, huh? Backing off quickly, hands in the air. I just meant-
詹德：我知道，我知道，啊？（舉起雙手做投降狀）快步退後，雙手投降。（嘆氣）我的意思只是……

站在櫃檯前查書的Willow，突然揮舞雙手興奮地叫了起來。
Willow: Thaumogenesis!
薇珞：是靈怪現象！

Willow的叫嚷，把趴在桌上打瞌睡的Anya嚇醒，本來趴在桌上睡著的Dawn也從睡夢中醒了過來。

Anya對Xander和Tara暗示。
Anya: She's possessed!
安雅：她被附身了！

Willow沒有理會Anya，繼續開心地叫嚷。
Willow: Thaumogenesis.
薇珞：是靈怪現象。

Dawn被吵醒，悻悻然地回應Anya。
Dawn: You're right.
糖：妳說得沒錯。

Xander和Tara一起走向櫃檯旁的Willow，Willow看著書，說出她發現的事。
Willow: I'm not possessed. I-I think I figured it out. This demon, i-it's not a demon we let out. It's, it's a demon that we made.
薇珞：我沒有被附身。我、我想我想通了。這個惡魔，它並不是我們釋放出的惡魔。它、它是我們創造出來的惡魔。

Xander站在Willow面前，看上去不大相信的樣子
Xander: We made a demon? Bad us.
詹德：我們創造了一個惡魔？我們真壞。

Willow急忙解釋。 Willow: Thaumogenesis is when doing a spell actually creates a being. In this case it was like, a, a side-effect, I guess. Like a price. 薇珞：靈怪現象發生於用魔法成功造出一個生物的時候。在這個案子上，我猜它就像是一個、一個邊際效應。就像一個要付出的代價一樣。 Dawn: What? 糖：什麼？

Willow吞吞口水，繼續說。
Willow: Think of it like, the world doesn't like you getting something for free, and we asked for this huge gift. Buffy. A-and so the world said, 'fine, but if you have that, you have to take this too.' And it made the demon.
薇珞：就把它想成，這個世界不喜歡你不付任何代價就得到東西，而我們又去求了這麼重大的賞賜。Buffy。所以這個世界就說了：「沒關係，但是如果妳有了那個東西，妳也得承受這個東西。」於是就創造出了這個惡魔。
Anya: Well, technically, that's not a price. That's a gift with purchase.
安雅：呃，技術上來說，那不是個代價。那是隨貨附贈的禮物。
Dawn: Um, but, if we made the demon, how come we can't see it? I mean, all we see is us. Doing stuff.
糖：嗯，但是，如果我們創造出一個惡魔，為什麼我們看不到它？我是說，我們看到的全都是我們。是我們在做這些事。
Willow: Well, I, I think it's out of phase with this dimension. Like, its consciousness is here, but, but its body is caught in the ether between existing and not existing.
薇珞：嗯，我、我想是它跟這個空間不協調。就像，它的意念雖在這裡，但是，但是它的軀體則落在實體和虛體之間。

Tara點點頭。
Tara: It doesn't have a body, so it's borrowing ours. I-it borrowed Dawn and Anya...
糖：它沒有軀體，所以它就借用我們的。它借了Dawn和Anya的……

Willow看著Tara，繼續補充下去。
Willow: Or, or it's manifesting copies of them, like, like it did when Buffy came at us...
薇落：或許，或許它會複製他們的形象顯現，就像、就像之前它變成Buffy接近我們的時候……

Tara深感同意，環顧大家。
Tara: It's using them to do stuff. To scare us, attack us.
泰拉：它利用他們來做這些事。嚇我們，攻擊我們。
Xander: So we need to uncreate it, right? We need to send it the rest of the way out of our world.
詹德：所以我們得把它弄消失，對吧？我們得從其他條路把它送出我們的世界。

講到此處，Willow反倒沉吟了下來。
Willow: Uh-huh. Except that ... it's linked to the spell. So, if we sent it away ... it would be like the spell doesn't exist. Like it never happened.
薇珞：嗯哼。除非……它是跟這個咒語連結在一起。所以，萬一我們把它送走……這個咒語就會像是從來沒有存在過。就像它完全沒發生過。

Dawn冷冷地補了一句。
Dawn: Like it never brought Buffy back.
糖：就像從沒有把Buffy帶回來過。

Willow抿嘴點點頭，小聲地回答。
Willow: Yes.
薇珞：對。
Dawn: You can't do that.
糖：妳不可以這麼做。

Dawn從椅子上站起來，直朝Willow走去。 Dawn: You can't think for a second that you're going to do that. 糖：（生氣）妳連想都不可以想要這麼做。 Tara: Dawn- 泰拉：Dawn…… Dawn站定在Willow面前，一臉憤怒。 Dawn: If you think you can give her back to me and then take her away again? No. That's worse than if you'd never brought her back. You can't mess with people's lives this way! 糖：妳是不是認為妳能把她帶回來給我，然後又能再把她帶走？不行。這比妳永遠都不把她帶回來更糟。妳不可以用這種方式對待人的生命！

Willow凝視Dawn的雙眼，誠懇地回答。
Willow: Dawn, we're not going to do it that way.
薇珞：Dawn，我們沒有要那樣做。

Dawn完全聽不進Willow說的，回頭瞪視大家。
Dawn: How can you let her do this? How can you even talk about letting her go?
糖：你們怎麼可以讓她這麼做？（瞪Willow）妳甚至怎麼說得出讓她離開的話？

Willow不知道該怎麼回答，低下頭又繼續翻起手上的書，而站在Willow身旁的Tara，好聲安慰Dawn別太激動。
Tara: Honey, you're not listening. She said we will find another way.
泰拉：親愛的，妳沒聽清楚。她說我們會找別的方法。
Xander: We will.
詹德：我們會的。
Dawn: Then do it!
糖：那就動手啊！

正在看書上資料的Willow面露笑容，揮手要大家先安靜一下。
Willow: Wait. Wait. Dawn. Everybody hold on.
薇珞：等等。Dawn。大家都等等。

坐在圓桌前的Anya，不懂Willow在這種時機怎麼還笑得出來。
Anya: What? Why are you smiling? That's inappropriate.
安雅：怎樣？妳為什麼要微笑？那不大適當耶。

Willow看著書，開心地說。
Willow: Because it's temporary.
薇珞：因為這現象是暫時的。
Xander: What is?
詹德：什麼？

	Willow指指書，轉身對大家解釋。 Willow: The demon. I-it's gonna dissipate. The only way for it to survive on this plane is if it were to kill the subject of the original spell. 薇珞：這個惡魔。它、它會消失的。它在這個空間裡唯一生存下去的方式，就取決於它是否會殺掉原始施法的目標物。
Tara: It would live if it killed Buffy? 泰拉：如果它殺了Buffy，它就會活下去？ Willow: That's not gonna happened. 薇珞：那不會發生。
	Xander突然抬起頭來，露出灰白的眼珠，邪惡地笑著。 Xander: Thanks for the tip. 詹德：謝謝妳的提示。

一說完，Xander馬上虛弱倒地。惡魔則迅速離開了魔法商店，進入Summers家裡，正好這時Buffy剛進家門，但沒多久，這個化成白霧狀的惡魔就現身了，並且開始攻擊Buffy，但因為它是霧狀，Buffy無法攻擊它，而惡魔就利用自己的優勢，企圖把Buffy殺掉。

至於原本在魔法商店內的大家，則是兵分兩路，Xander開車載Anya和Dawn，趕回Summers家裡看Buffy是否遭遇危險。但在車上，Anya嫌Xander開車太慢，於是兩人吵了起來，Dawn命令兩人住嘴別吵，應該多花點心力為Buffy想辦法。Xander於是安慰後座的Dawn。
Xander: It's okay, Dawnie. Willow and Tara are doing a spell.
詹德：沒關係的，小Dawn。Willow和Tara會施咒的。
Dawn: You sure it won't send Buffy back?
糖：你確定那不會把Buffy送回去？
Xander: No, of course not. It's just that she can't fight this thing if it's all ... misty, so they make it more solid, so Buffy can kick its fully embodied ass.
詹德：不，當然不會。那只是讓她不用跟一個……全身霧濛濛的東西打鬥，所以她們要讓它凝固一點，好讓Buffy把它打得滿地找牙。
Dawn: You sure it'll work?
糖：你確定那會成功嗎？

同一時間，Willow和Tara在魔法商店內已經準備好施法的道具，伴隨著許多魔法蠟燭，兩人手牽手面對面坐著，合力念起咒語。 Willow/Tara: Child of words, hear thy makers. Child of words, we entreat. With our actions did we make thee, to our voices wilt thou bend. 薇珞和泰拉：咒語的產物，傾聽你的創造者。咒語的產物，我們懇求你。隨著我們的所作所為，我們創造了你，由我們的聲音讓你屈服。
隨著Willow和Tara的咒語，惡魔開始漸漸凝固起來，原本被惡魔勒住的Buffy，也因為惡魔手一鬆，整個人跌到地上。 Willow /Tara: With our potions thou took motive, with our motions came to pass. We rescind no past devotions, give thee substance, give thee mass . 薇珞和泰拉：你隨著我們的靈藥得以行動，你隨著我們的行動得以產生。我們不取消過去的奉獻，要給你實體，讓你凝聚成塊。

Buffy抓起床底下的一把斧頭，開始揮砍起惡魔，但是惡魔還沒有完全凝固，所以毫髮無傷，惡魔在房內迅速遊移，不斷說Buffy不該存在在這個世界上，正好這時Xander、Anya和Dawn趕上樓，撞見這危急的場面，Buffy要他們三個離開，別讓Dawn看這些不該看的東西。

魔法商店內，只剩下Tara一人在吟誦咒語，Willow闔上雙眼，頭抬了起來。 Tara: Child of words, hear thy makers. Child of words, we entreat... 泰拉：咒語的產物，傾聽你的創造者。咒語的產物，我們懇求你……
	Tara咒語念到這，突然一束強烈的光線降臨在Willow身上，Willow全身發光，原本牽住Tara的雙手也滑落下來。沒幾秒的時間，Willow張開雙眼，已是全黑的眼珠。 Willow: Solid. 薇珞：成為固體。

Willow才剛說完，另一方的惡魔瞬間變成一個實體狀的白髮妖怪，Buffy跟他打鬥了一會兒，就當著Xander、Anya和Dawn的面，用斧頭砍下惡魔的頭顱，由於太過暴力，Dawn還嚇得尖叫了一聲。

這個紛亂的黑夜總算過去，一早Dawn出門準備上學，Buffy追出去，把自己做好的早餐拿給妹妹。Dawn看到Buffy似乎越來越好了，心裡感到非常開心。

Dawn上學後，Buffy又來到魔法商店找大家，她一推門進去，就看到Tara坐在書架前的椅子上，Willow站在她旁邊，兩人正在把之前拿出來找資料的書籍一一歸位。Willow聽到店門開啟的鈴鐺聲，發現是Buffy走進來，開心地跟Buffy打招呼。
Willow: Buffy! Hey!
薇珞：Buffy！嘿！

櫃檯前的Xander和Anya也關心地看向Buffy。
Xander: Hey, you get Dawn off to school all right? 'Cause I was thinking, if you need help picking her up, I...
詹德：嘿，妳讓Dawn出門上課了對不對？因為我剛剛還在想，如果妳需要幫忙接送她的話，我……

Buffy微笑點點頭，朝店內走去，Willow和Tara也放下手邊的東西，走向Buffy。 Buffy: It's okay. I got it. Look, you guys, um, there's this thing ... so I'm just gonna say it. 芭菲：沒關係。我可以的。你們大家聽著，嗯，有一件事情卡在這……所以我想談談。
	大家全都緊張地看著Buffy，不知道她想說什麼。Buffy平靜地說道。 Buffy: You brought me back. I was in a ... I was in hell. I, um ... I can't think too much about what it was like. But it felt like the world abandoned me there. And then suddenly ... you guys did what you did. 芭菲：你們把我帶回來了。我之前在一個……我之前在地獄裡。我，嗯……我想不起太多那裡的狀況。但是感覺就像是這個世界把我丟在那裡。然後突然間……你們做了你們所做的。

Tara: It was Willow. She knew what to do.
泰拉：是Willow。她知道該怎麼做。

Willow露出不大好意思的神色，Buffy對Willow點點頭。
Buffy: Okay. So you did that. And the world came rushing back. Thank you. You guys gave me the world. I can't tell you what it means to me.
芭菲：好。所以是妳做的。而這個世界又迅速回到眼前。謝謝妳。你們大家讓我回到這個世界。我言語無法表達出這對我有多麼重大。

	Willow的眼角泛起高興的淚水。 Buffy: And I should have said it before. 芭菲：而我早就該這麼說了。 Willow感動地點點頭。 Willow: You're welcome. 薇珞：不客氣。
	然後她上前和Buffy相擁。 Xander: Welcome home, Buffy. 詹德：歡迎回家，Buffy。 Xander也走上前，抱住Buffy和Willow，他跟Willow真的很高興Buffy又回來了。相較於Xander和Willow的開心，Buffy的表情似乎不是真的很激動。

離開了魔法商店，Buffy從店內的後門走到小巷子裡，她滿臉悲傷，但一抬頭，她就看到Spike坐在陰影底下。Buffy先是愣了一下，然後就坐到巷子裡的一個廢棄箱子上。

Spike解釋說他本來要到魔法商店內，但看到大家感人相擁的一幕，就覺得渾身起雞皮疙瘩，於是才又退回巷內，Buffy說她想要一個人靜靜，Spike本來想要識趣離開，但受限於陽光，他一時間也無法離開這塊陰影區。Buffy嘆了口氣，跟Spike說沒關係，他不用走開。這時Spike注意到Buffy看來滿腔心事，覺得很不對勁。
Spike: Buff? ... Slayer? Are you okay?
大釘：Buffy？……剋星？妳還好吧？

Buffy看來一點都不好，但她還是勉強對Spike微笑了一下，點點頭。
Buffy: I'm here. I'm good.
芭菲：我在這裡。我很好。

Spike走到Buffy面前。
Spike: Buffy, if you're in ... if you're in pain ... or if you need anything... or if I can do anything for you...
大釘：Buffy，如果妳感到……如果妳感到痛苦……或者如果妳需要任何東西……或者我能給妳任何東西……

Buffy垂下頭去。
Buffy: You can't.
芭菲：你辦不到的。
Spike: Well, I haven't been to a hell dimension just of late, but I do know a thing or two about torment.
大釘：呃，我最近是沒有去過什麼地獄空間啦，但是我真的對那種痛苦略知一二。

Spike坐到Buffy身旁，看著悶悶不樂的她。Buffy還是垂著頭，她開始幽幽地吐露出她真正的經歷。
Buffy: I was happy.
芭菲：我之前很快樂。

Spike不懂地看著她。
Buffy: Wherever I ... was ... I was happy. At peace.
芭菲：不管我……之前……在哪裡……我都很快樂。很平靜。

Spike愣了一下，他皺起眉，沒有回應，只是靜靜地聽Buffy說話。。
Buffy: I knew that everyone I cared about was all right. I knew it. Time ... didn't mean anything ... nothing had form ... but I was still me, you know? And I was warm ... and I was loved ... and I was finished. Complete. I don't understand about theology or dimensions, or ... any of it, really ... but I think I was in heaven.
芭菲：我也知道我關心的大家都好好的。我知道的。時間……並沒有任何意義……也沒有形體存在……但是我還是我，你知道嗎？（抬頭看了Spike一眼）而我感到溫暖……我感到被愛……我感到走到終點了。徹徹底底的。我並不懂神學或著各種空間，或……任何相關的東西，真的……但是我想我之前是在天堂。

Buffy越說越難過。
Buffy: And now I'm not. I was torn out of there. Pulled out ... by my friends. Everything here is ... hard, and bright, and violent. Everything I feel, everything I touch ... this is Hell. Just getting through the next moment, and the one after that ...knowing what I've lost...
芭菲：而現在我不是了。我被迫離開那裡。被我的朋友……給拉了出來。這裡的每件事情都……好辛苦、好清晰，還有好暴力。我感覺到的每件事情，我碰觸到的每個東西都一樣……這裡是地獄。就一個階段、一個階段的通過，而那背後的主宰……知道我失去了什麼……

講到這，Buffy深深為自己感到悲哀，她站了起來，走出小巷，Spike不發一語，看向Buffy即將離開的背影。Buffy往前走了幾步又停了下來，她回頭跟Spike難過地說。
Buffy: They can never know. Never.
芭菲：他們永遠都不會知道。永遠都不會的。

說完，Buffy拋下Spike，離開了這個掩埋她滿腔心事的破舊小巷……
