「魔法奇兵」第五季第六集—Family (2)
Tara: Uh, Dad, hi.
Mr. Maclay: Well, here's my girl.

在魔法商店內，Anya和Buffy正忙著照顧客人，Buffy和Xander推門走進店內，兩人看來正為著某件事苦惱著，他們邊走邊說。
Buffy: Well, sure I forgot about the party.
I mean, there's kind of a lot going on. And it's not ... you know ... the most
thrilling social event of the season.
芭菲：嗯，我真的忘記那個生日派對了。我是說，最近發生一大堆事。而且，這又不是……你知道的……這又不是這陣子最讓人感到驚心動魄的社交活動。
Xander: (nods) Yeah ... it's a big deal for
Willow, though. I mean, you are gonna be there?
詹德：（點頭）是啊……不過這對Willow來說可是很重要的。妳會去吧？
Buffy: Yeah. (shrugs) Barring monsters.
芭菲：會呀。（聳聳肩）除非被妖怪阻撓。
說著說著，Buffy就開始跟Giles討論，怎麼調查出她遇到的可怕紅衣女的來歷，接著她就跟Xander坐在店內，坐在攤著一堆魔法書的桌前，查著資料，書才翻了沒兩下，Buffy就煩惱地問Xander。
Buffy: So ... what'd you get her?
芭菲：所以……你買給她什麼？
Xander: Huh?
詹德：〈疑惑〉啊？
Buffy: Tara. You said you got a present already.
芭菲：Tara啦。你說你已經買好禮物了。
Xander: Yeah, that was a tangled web of lies,
sweetie. I'm not really sure what kind of thing she'd ... I mean, I don't
really know her that well.
詹德：對啊，那可是一個天衣無縫的謊言呢，親愛的。我還不確定她會喜歡什麼樣的東西……我的意思是，我真的不大了解她。
Buffy: (nods) I know.
芭菲：（點點頭）我知道。
Xander: (quickly) I mean, she's nice.
詹德：（快速）我的意思是，她人不錯。
Buffy: (quickly) Yeah! Yeah, nice ... nice.
I-it's just, I-I sort of...
芭菲：（快速）對！對，人不錯……不錯。只、只是，我、我有一點……
Xander: I don't necessarily get her ... but
she's really nice.
詹德：我不是真的很了解她……但是她真的挺不錯的。
Buffy: Yeah. There's ... just that thing.
芭菲：對，就只有……那方面而已。
Xander伸出食指指了指Buffy，表示他同意Buffy說的。
Xander: That thing.
詹德：就是那方面。
Buffy: That ... thing of not understanding-
芭菲：就是……那方面不大讓人了解……
Xander: …half of what she says?
詹德：〈點頭，表達贊同〉……不了解她大部分說的話？
Buffy: As for example. But she's super nice.
芭菲：那只是舉例而已。但是她人超好的。
Xander: You betcha.
詹德：妳說得對。
頓了一下，他倆繼續看著桌前的書，Buffy忍不住又繼續說下去，兩人依舊有點像笨蛋間的對話。
Buffy: Think there'll be a lot of Wiccas
there, heavy Wiccan crowd?
芭菲：你有想過這裡有這麼多魔法的東西，和一大堆學習巫術的人？
Xander: Well, that's sort of her deal. Her and
Willow are all Wiccie. Swingin' with the Wiccan lifestyle.
詹德：嗯，有幾分她的感覺。她和Willow都是女巫。過著自在的女巫生活。
Buffy: Which is cool.
芭菲：那很酷。
Xander: Well, yeah.
詹德：嗯，對。
Buffy: I just hope we fit in, not awkward.
芭菲：我只希望我們能處得不錯，不會感到尷尬。
Xander認真地分析他的見解。
Xander: With Willow it's like, she's got this ... whole new thing in her
life. But she's still Willow, so I can always figure her out. But Tara, I just
know she likes Willow, and she already has one of those.
詹德：對Willow來說，她……她的人生在這方面是開啟了一個新階段。但是她還是Willow，所以我還是可以了解她在想什麼。可是Tara，我只知道她喜歡Willow，而且她已經有Willow了。
Buffy為了想不出禮物感到很心煩，聽完Xander的說法，她哼了一聲，砰地把書蓋上。
Buffy: Ugh! I have a present-buying
headache. Tara's damn birthday is just one too many things for me to worry
about.
芭菲：唉！我為了買禮物頭痛得很。Tara那可惡的生日只是我眾多煩惱中的一項而已。
Xander看著眼前的書，輕鬆地說著。
Xander: Relax. You should take a few minutes. Train or stretch out. You
should do something to ... work off the tension.
詹德：放輕鬆點。妳應該休息一下的。（指指店後的訓練室）做點訓練或者活絡一下筋骨。妳應該做些事情……好發洩壓力。
Xander說完，鏡頭就剪到Spike邊和吸血鬼女友Harmony做愛，邊幻想著Buffy揍著他的情景。接著場景又切回Magic Box內，Buffy跟Xander依舊在查著書，而Giles則是從樓上走下來。
Giles: Come up with anything yet?
吉爾斯：查出什麼了嗎？
Xander看著Giles，漫不經心地說著。
Xander: Well, candles, maybe, or bath oils of
some kind.
詹德：也許，買蠟燭，或者買跟魔法有關的沐浴精吧。
Buffy: I saw a really cute sweater at
Bloomy's ... but, I think I want me to have it.
芭菲：我在布魯密店裡有看到一件很可愛的毛衣……但是，我想要據為己有。
Giles倒著茶，滿臉不解地看著兩人。
Giles: And you are talking about what on
earth?
吉爾斯：你們兩個到底在聊什麼？
Buffy: Tara's birthday. We're at a loss.
芭菲：Tara的生日。我們不知道該送什麼。
Xander附和地點點頭。
Giles: You're in a magic shop, and you can't
think what Tara would like. I believe you're both profoundly stupid.
吉爾斯：你們在一間魔法商品店裡，而且想不出Tara會想要什麼。我相信你們兩個絕對很豬頭。
Xander: Well, we don't really know ... the kind of things witches like. What, are we gonna get her some cheesy crystal ball?
詹德：ㄟ，我們真的不太知道……女巫會想要什麼樣的東西嘛。我們何不送她個漂亮的水晶球呢？
Giles: Bloody well better not. I've got mine
already wrapped.
吉爾斯：有總比沒有好。我的早就買好也包好了。
正聊著，一個金髮的年輕男子走了過來，他臉上蓄著鬍子，他本來看著貨架上的東西，後來他轉身看著Buffy和Xander面前滿桌的書。
Donny: Uh, are all these magic books?
東尼：嗯，這些都是魔法書嗎？
說完那男子就翻起桌上的書來。Giles趕緊走上前解釋。
Giles: Uh, private collection. Uh, books for
sale are against the walls over there. (gestures with his coffee cup, then
walks toward the counter)
吉爾斯：喔，那都是私人收藏。嗯，賣的書都在對面那的牆壁上。
Giles邊說邊指著書架的方向，但是那男子並不理會，依舊翻著他們桌上的書，他帶著譏諷的口吻問著。
Donny: So all these books got spells in 'em?
Turn people into frogs, things like that?
東尼：所以這些書裡可以找到巫術囉？就是像把人變成青蛙之類的玩意嗎？
Buffy奇怪地看著這男子，不搭理他，Xander則是敷衍著。
Xander: Yeah, we're building a race of frog people. It's a good time.
詹德：是啊，我們正在製造青蛙人呢。現在可就是個好時機呢。

那男的嘲笑似地笑了笑，然後眼神掃著Buffy、Giles、Xander和櫃檯上的Anya。 |
Giles瞪著他，防衛性地說。
Giles: Was there something in particular you were looking for?
吉爾斯：你要找什麼特別的東西嗎？
那男子聽了Giles的話，依舊微笑看著大家。這時店門打開，Willow和Tara進來，兩人邊走邊說笑著，看來Tara進門前剛跟Willow講了她之前說的冷笑話，Willow則是聽懂了，而且覺得很幽默。
Willow: Her insect reflection. That is so good.
薇珞：〈笑〉她的昆蟲內心面。那真是太好笑了。
Tara: I just thought that'd be funny, you know,
if her center of power was-
泰拉：〈笑〉我之前也覺得好笑，妳知道的，如果她的中心力量是……
那男子上前打斷Tara的話。
Donny: Well, whatta you know.
東尼：哇，妳還知道多少啊！
Tara一看到那男子，馬上收起了笑容，整個人僵在原地。男子冷笑了兩聲。
Donny: What's the matter? You don't have a
hug for your big brother?
東尼：怎麼啦？不來抱抱妳哥哥嗎？

Willow一聽眼前的男子自稱是Tara的哥哥，她驚訝地看著Tara。Tara則面無表情地僵在原地，然後雙手抱在胸前。 Willow: Brother? |

Buffy和Xander繼續坐在桌前，兩人互相看了一眼。Tara緊張地深吸了一口氣，勉強擠出一絲笑容。
Tara: Willow, this is…Donny.
泰拉：Willow，這是…（結巴地頓了一下）Donny。
Willow開心地向前走去，Tara則是很不自在地跟在後面，似乎不是很敢正視她哥哥。
Willow: Hi.
薇珞：嗨。
Willow跟Donny握了握手。
Donny: (smiling) Nice to meet you.
東尼：（微笑）幸會。
Tara皺著眉，結巴地介紹其他人給她哥哥認識。
Tara: And, uh, these are my-my friends.
泰拉：那，嗯，這些是我的、我的朋友。
Donny回頭看了看其他人，大家都客氣地對他點頭揮手，場面很尷尬。Donny則是依舊看來相當輕鬆。
Donny: What, uh, all of you hang out? Wow.
That's more people than you met in high school. (Gives Tara a friendly punch on
the arm)
東尼：這個，嗯，你們在一起都在做什麼呀？〈笑〉哇！這些人比妳在高中認識的都多呢。（邊說還邊上前拍了拍Tara的手臂）

Tara努力壓抑心裡的緊張，擠出一絲不自然的笑容，但是講起話來依舊結巴。 泰拉：你怎麼找到……我、我的意思是，你怎麼來的？ |
Willow一臉茫然地看著Donny。
Donny: Well, duh, birthday girl. Uh, we came down in the camper, been all
over the campus.
東尼：笨喔，壽星。嗯，我們是搭露營車來的，我們已經找遍了大學的校園。
Tara疑惑地問。
Tara: We?
泰拉：我們？
才剛講完，另一個中年男子就推門進來，店門的鈴鐺叮噹作響，Tara和Willow趕緊往後看向店門，那男子後面還跟著一個跟Tara差不多同年的年輕女孩。Donny指著Tara，對那兩人說。
Donny: Look what I found!
東尼：看看我找到什麼！
Tara倒抽了一口氣，迎上前去。Willow則在她身後看著她。

Tara: Uh, Dad, hi. 泰拉：嗯，爸，嗨。 Tara的父親Maclay先生張開雙手，抱了抱女兒。 |
Tara很不自然地抱了抱她爸爸，Willow似乎為這團圓的場面感到高興，而Giles則是走到Willow旁邊，看著這一家子的人。
Tara: S-such a s-surprise.
泰拉：真、真是個驚、驚喜啊。
Donny: Yes.
東尼：對呀。
Tara看著父親身後的年輕女孩。
Tara: Cousin Beth.
泰拉：Beth表妹。
Beth: Hey.
貝絲：嘿。
Mr. Maclay: One of your dorm-mates said I might
... find you here.
麥克雷先生：妳宿舍裡的某個人說我或許可以……在這找到妳。
Maclay先生邊說邊張望著店裡。Tara緊張地趕緊解釋。
Tara: Oh. Oh, um, (turning toward the others)
these are, these are friends. Um, this is Mr. Giles, um, he runs the shop.
泰拉：喔。喔，嗯，（轉頭望向其他人）這些是、這些是我的朋友。嗯，這是Giles先生，嗯，他開了這家店的。
Willow開心地對Tara的爸爸Maclay先生笑了笑。Giles則是客氣地回答道。
Giles: How do you do?
吉爾斯：幸會幸會。
Mr. Maclay: Pleasure. Well, I, I don't mean
to interrupt your plans, I know we've come on you kind of suddenly, but I
thought we could have dinner.
麥克雷先生：很高興認識你。嗯，我、我不是故意想要打亂妳的計劃，我知道我們出現得相當突然，但是我想我們可以一起吃個晚餐。
Tara馬上回答。
Tara: Okay.
泰拉：好。
Mr. Maclay: Why don't I pick you up at six,
And we'll ... (glances at the others) do some catching up.
麥克雷先生：我何不就六點來接妳呢，而且我們可以……（掃視了一下其他人）好好聊一聊。
Tara: Yes, sir.
泰拉：〈緊張〉是的，先生。
接著Maclay先生就對店內的大家說。
Mr. Maclay: Forgive me for running out. We're
double-parked.
麥克雷先生：原諒我現在就得走了。我們是併排停車。
Giles拿著茶，做出一個「請便」的表情。Tara看來滿臉心煩意亂，接著Maclay先生、Beth表妹和Donny就離開了，出門時，Donny還開心地在門口跟大家揮手道別。
Donny: Nice to meet you all.
東尼：很高興認識你們大家。
Willow微笑地對Donny揮手道別。Tara目送家人離去後，鬆了一口氣，轉身走回Willow前面。
Willow: That's so weird. Your ... whole family.
薇珞：〈微笑〉那真是太奇怪了。妳的……全家人。
Tara緊張地對Willow笑了笑。
Tara: Yeah.
泰拉：對呀。

這時Buffy和Xander又彼此交換了一個眼神。 薇珞：他們看來人不錯。 Tara故作輕鬆地回答道。 Tara: You know, they-they're okay. Families are always- 泰拉：〈緊張〉妳知道，他、他們都不錯。家人永遠是…… 薇珞：（理解地點點頭）會讓你受不了。 泰拉：〈緊張〉通常如此。想要開始幫忙研究了嗎？〈註：她指協助找出紅衣女的來頭〉 |

說完她們就轉身朝Buffy和Xander坐的桌前走去。
